Steps to Kick-Starting Your Business
Working for someone else is fine for some people, but for others the ultimate dream is to be your own boss. Rather than pouring your heart and soul into a job and watching someone else profit from your efforts, you dream of focusing your efforts on your own dreams. And you can. Anyone can start a business. The difficult thing isn't starting it. It's getting it revved up and making money. Following these steps will increase your chances of doing just that.
1. Create a legitimate looking website-Having a website is crucial in the 21st century. The fact is, the majority of consumers use the Internet at some point in the buying process. And if you aren't represented on the Web, you're cheating yourself out of a large piece of the pie.
2. Of course, just having a site isn't enough. It needs to be a quality website. Consider hiring a web design company to produce something you'll be proud for customers to see. The last thing you want is a website that looks like you made it with free tools off the Web.
3. Find someone to perform monthly SEO work-Having a website won't do you much good if your potential clients can't find it. You need to pop up in the search engines. How can you make sure this happens? Hire a SEO company to perform ongoing work on your site. Through link building services and other time-tested techniques, a reputable SEO provider can make sure your site begins that slow climb to the top of the search pages.
4. Don't be fooled by those companies that offer you a one-time fee to SEO your site. Sure you can do a few things to your website to give it the tools to get picked up by the search engines, but search engine optimization is a long-term process. And if you don't have a long-term plan, your website will get lost in the shuffle.
5. Develop a marketing plan-SEO work alone can only do so much. You need a well-developed plan for going out and grabbing the attention of potential clients. A few good ways to do this are:
* Direct mail-Pay a copywriter to write a well-crafted sales letter. Put together a list of solid leads and send the letter out.
* Cold call-Target a specific customer-type and hit the phones. Sure it's nerve-wracking but it's worth it.
* Ads-Find a magazine in your niche and purchase some ad space. The more specific the niche, the higher probability that you'll get a response.
